Variety Bash 2017

By Ray White Toronto Reception

The 2017 bash saw a record number of cars turn up! We left Bar Beach car park on Sunday morning and headed out to Gilgandra overnight via Blackville. Each morning and lunch we stopped off at some very remote and very small schools where we were spoilt with delicious home cooked meals and desserts. Each school was given a generous donation to go towards specific things that they were in need of like playground equipment, laptops and some multi sensory products for special needs kids. One of the most moving donations was a Brail machine which allows a young vision impaired boy to type and hear what he is typing which then prints out in brail. The simple art of communicating is taken for granted by all of us and it isn’t until you see and experience the challenges that many kids face that you really appreciate how lucky we are.

We visited Bogan Gate, Cowra, Tullibigeal, Narrandera, Maimuru, Yass, Taralga, Bathurst, Lue, Muswellbrook, Aberdeen then back to Newcastle where it all started. We got to see amazing country side & some roads that would make a goat track look good. A few laps of Mt Panorama at Bathurst was one of the highlights. From memory a Holden won!!

There were a few broken parts along the way with one car having a complete motor rebuild on the 3rd day! The friendly helpful people out in the bush were amazing. Workshops and tools and advice given for free helped everyone stay on the road.

I had one person come up to me in the street and hand me $5 because they wanted to donate! Every little bit helps and it was awesome to see how everyone wanted to be a part of it.

Super Hubert the world’s skinniest magician performed at each school which the kids loved. Most of the Basher’s get dressed up each day and the buzz this gives the kids is amazing. Living in such remote towns, these kids are very secluded so it’s awesome to see the joy we can bring by dropping by.

To the officials who are all volunteers giving up more than a week of their time, a huge THANK YOU. The bash wouldn’t be possible without these volunteers which mean the $850,000 that was raised for the week wouldn’t be possible. Truly special generous people.

Thank you to Variety – The Children’s Charity for doing what you do and I am so glad I can be a part of your organisation and help Aussie kids be kids!

And lastly, but certainly not least, a massive Thank you to all those who donated money for our Bash Car! I am very Thankful for all of your input.

Our official total for all money raised for the bash is $10,253.25!!! Another huge Thank You to all those who donated to this great cause. . .
